The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a three-year grant program, the Midwest Electric Vehicle Opportunities: Learning, eVents, Experience (EVOLVE) project which is a partnership between the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest and eight Midwestern Clean Cities coalitions in seven states. The purpose of the project is to educate consumers, as well as public and private fleets, about the performance and environmental advantages of electric vehicles.
With this grant program Midwest EVOLVE and its Clean Cities partners will hold events that provide a hands-on experience to test drive a variety of locally available EVs, which helps consumers and fleets to determine the best vehicle(s) and charging options for their personal and/or fleet needs. These events and showcases provide in-depth education in a variety of conveniently located, brand-neutral settings.
In addition to helping the public learn about EVs, Midwest EVOLVE is focused on fostering the rollout of additional charging stations throughout the Midwest, including public-charging stations and employer-based workplace charging.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are quiet, fun, practical and offer outstanding performance. They are not just for the rich and famous. They are ideal for the common commuter. EVs can help keep your town and your world clean, producing fewer emissions that contribute to climate change and smog than conventional vehicles. Visit the event page for a ride and drive near you or contact our office to request one at your workplace.

Why Purchase an Electric Vehicle?

Plug-in electric vehicles can help to substantially improve urban air quality because they have zero (or very limited) tailpipe emissions like CO2, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides that are produced by conventional vehicles. Moreover, depending on the fuel used to generate the electricity powering them, electric vehicles can also offer significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
The cost of purchasing or leasing a plug-in electric vehicle is typically greater than the cost of a comparable gasoline or diesel model. However, many commercial fleets purchasing electric vehicles today are already anticipating a lower total cost of ownership for these vehicles. This is because higher purchase costs are offset over time by sharply lower operating costs. Depending on the number of miles driven, the ownership period, and other variables, these vehicles could generate significant savings.
