Milwaukee County, Wisconsin is located on the southeastern side of the state. The most populous county in the state, Milwaukee County has approximately 956,406 residents (2014 figures) and is ranked as the 45th most populous county in the United States. Milwaukee County has 19 cities and villages located within the 1,190 square miles.

The Milwaukee County fleet consists of approximately 1,823 vehicles and various pieces of equipment, including 1,005 motorized units. Milwaukee County’s first CNG vehicles were in the early 1980’s. Milwaukee County switched in the 1990’s to LP powered vehicles due to the increase of CNG costs.

Milwaukee County continues to research alternative fueled vehicles, and continues to expand to the use of technology towards a cleaner fleet. The Wisconsin Smart Fleet program educates fleets as to the available technology, education and programs to help Milwaukee County grow and improve.
